Diglipur, Nov 12: Children from various villages of North Andaman had an interaction meeting with Adhyaksha, ZIllaParishad N&M Andaman, on 11th November at Subash Gram Panchayat Hall, Diglipur with the objective of building a protective and child friendly environment in Andaman villages. Earlier, inthe these children organized children’s Council (BalSabha) in six villages of North Andaman to discuss the issues related to village and school as the part of preparing a child plan. After that children approached officials/ PRI
members in different Panchayats to resolve the issues along with memorandums.
The major issues discussed by children during advocacy meeting with ZillaParishad,Adhyaksha were the need for music and computer
teachers in various schools, shortage of school trip buses, illegal selling of alcohol in Durgapur village in aorganized manner, repairing of Anganwadi buildings, poor internet network connectivity in villages, need for children’s parks in villages etc.
Smti.Kalpana Bain, Adhyakha, ZillaParishad ensured that she will look in to the matters and will take necessary actions to resolve the issues raised by children. Mr. Sino P Kurian, Programme Manager, Butterflies and Smti.AlpanaMondal, Pradhan, Subhash Gram Panchayat were also present during this occasion.
Further, children are planning to meet Lieutenant Governor of Andaman Nicobar Islands to ensure a childfriendly environment in islands.
At the beginning of the meeting Mr. PrasannaRao, Field Coordinator welcomed the gathering and briefed the stepwise procedures followedby these childrento preparethis child led plan.
