Port Blair, Nov 12: Tired up with the attitude of the administration which keeps on ignoring local private media, a section of the local media has decided to boycott the National Press Day to be celebrated on 16th November 2017. According to reports, the Lt Governor is scheduled to inaugurate the Andaman Pavilion at the India International Trade Fair-2017 at the Pragati Maidan on November 14, 2017. While the local private media were ignored, representatives of the official media are proceeding to New Delhi for the coverage of the event. It is not for the first time, the administration has resorted to such partiality. They have been doing so far long. Be it at the time of VVIP visit, sudden cancellation of HM press conference or non-inviting private media in state functions, the administration hardly bother about the private local media. For them, the official mouthpiece remains their preferred choice. The IP&T department has set up a norm wherein they also use to depute representatives of local media to Delhi for coverage of the Andaman Day function. But this practice has been discontinued and only the official media are now given the opportunity to visit Delhi to cover the function. A section of the local media are of the view that the Director, IP&T should invite only the government media for the National Press Day function on 16th November 2017 and should not run behind the private media pleading them to attend the press day function.
