Port Blair, Oct 01: The Lt Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi, while speaking on the occasion of International Day for Elders at Chinmaya Mission here today, has announced that Recreational Centers will be established all over the Islands for the benefit of the Senior Citizens in line with ones functioning in other parts of the Country. In the first phase, two Recreation Centres will be created in Port Blair city in which senior citizens can spend time with others in the same age group and also avail facilities like news papers, books, indoor games etc. He urged the PBMC Chairperson to appraise all the Councilors about this project, so that they can identify places in their wards, act as the guardians of the Recreation Centres and bring more elders to the centre. The existing scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment would be implemented to provide basic support for effective functioning of such centres including the services of one caretaker. However, the management of activities of the Centres will be largely the responsibility of the elders themselves for which they should form Senior Citizens Associations.
