Port Blair, June 25: A Basic Training Programme (BTP) on Jute Carry Bags of three weeks duration sponsored by National Jute Board (NJB), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Kolkata & organised by Jute Service Centre (JSC)-Port Blair in collaboration with A & N Consultancy Centre (ANCON), was inaugurated at old Hopetown Panchayat Hall, on Thursday, June 21, 2012 by Smt. Rasheeda Bibi, Pradhan, Hope Town Gram Panchayat. 27 candidates have been selected by ANCON for this training Programme.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Smt. Rasheeda Bibi, impressed upon the trainees to seriously take up the training programme and take it up as a source of self-employment for which all types of support will be provided by PRI, Industries Department, Banks, ANCON etc. which is acting as a nodal agency.
Er. Johnson Abraham, JSC in charge, informed the details of the programme and post-training escort services provided by Jute Service Centre, Port Blair. He said that the eco-friendly jute bags and other jute-based products have a ready market in these islands for its uniqueness of biodegradability. He opined that this type of programmes would create a new opportunity for self-employment. He further said that ANCON would be giving continuous support services to the trainees for grounding the units.
Mr. B. Laxmi Narayan, Up Pramukh, Ferraragunj Panchayat Samiti, in his address called upon the trainees to sincerely undergo the training & to take up self-employment as it is the ultimate aim of all such skill training programmes for which all agencies are ready to assist the trainees.
Mr. Abdul Aziz, Pradhan, Stewartgunj Gram Panchayat informed the gathering that as plastic carry bags had been banned in the entire UT, there would be substantial demand for jute bags & urged upon the trainees to take up formation of SHG & to tailor a business plan suitable to SHG approach.
Earlier, Mr. A. K. Bhattacharjee, Advisor, ANCON welcomed the gathering & anchored the programme.
