
Port Blair, Sept. 15: The Lt. Governor A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi today laid the foundation stone of Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalaya (permanent site) at Port Mout. Thereafter, the Lt. Governor inaugurated the temporary building of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalaya at Govt. Middle School, Chouldari by lighting the traditional oil lamp. The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, the Chief Secretary, Shri Anindo Majumdar, the Adhyaksh Zila Parishad, Shri Jaydeep Kumar Dey, the Chairperson PBMC, Shri Eswar Rao joined the Lt. Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor expressed his happiness to be part of the foundation stone laying ceremony and inauguration of JNV at Chouldari. He said JNVs have been devised with a mission and exclusively tasked with finding talented children in rural areas of India and providing them education equivalent to the best residential school system, without regard to their family socio-economic condition. No recommendations are considered and the admissions in JNVs are based on the merit/performance of the students, the Lt. Governor added.
The Lt Governor said that our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji has given the slogan ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ and the opening of JNV School is the true example of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’. The Lt Governor thanked the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray for his dedicated role in materializing this project in South Andaman District. He also appreciated the Administration for creation of good ambience in the temporary structure for JNV at Govt. Middle School Chouldari, in which 33 students will be accommodated.
The Lt Governor said that in India there are 661 JNVs and with the opening of JNV today these Islands have JNVs in all the three districts. He also announced that a ‘Model School’ will be established in Hut Bay with all modern facilities for the benefit of the students in that area.
The Lt Governor showered all praise for the Govt. School which are performing well and has secured/achieved remarkable results this year. “Our teachers are a hard working lot and they are performing their duties in the remotest corner of our Islands. He gave credit to all the teachers for the good percentage of results in this Island territory.
In his speech on the occasion, the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray appreciated the role of refugees settled for the development of Chouldari village. He also informed the gathering about his initiative in opening of 5 ZPVKVs and one PBMCVKV during the Vajpayee Govt. Referring about his meeting with the Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya in New Delhi, Shri ray urged the Education Secretary to put up proposals for opening of more Kendriya Vidyalaya in these Islands. He also urged the Administration for establishing more ZPKVKs, the funds for which will be allocated through MPLAD. He thanked the Lt. Governor and Chief Secretary for getting sanctioned a new Polytechnic for Diglipur. He also informed that the fund for 21 rural roads has been sanctioned and Rs 10 crores will be released soon under Central Road Fund.
In his address, the Chief Secretary, Shri Anindo Majumdar stated that a log pending demand of the people has been fulfilled with the opening of the School, the project proposal was initiated in the year 2009. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a system of alternate schools for gifted students in India which started in the year 1986, the Chief Secretary said adding that JNVs are known for social justice and quality of education. The Chief Secretary hoped that this school will prove as model and excellent school in our Islands.
Welcoming the chief guest and others present on the occasion, the Secretary Education, Smt. Tanvi Garg informed that with the laying of foundation stone, the demand of a permanent structure for JNV has been fulfilled. She also thanked the Chief Secretary for taking personal initiative for the establishment of JNV in South Andaman District. The classes for the new JNV will start from this session itself, she added.
