Port Blair, Aug 29: In order to keep & protect the fragile environment of Port Blair City, Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) taking immense steps towards the waste reduction, waste management as well, in order to Opt & develop a better & scientific waste management system for complying the various Environment Rules and to implement the flagship program i.e. Swachh Bharat Mission, PBMC decided & formulated a team headed by the Chairperson, PBMC to visit best waste management practicing cities in India, which has a good ranks among other cities during the Swachh Survekshan, 2017.
A team of Chairperson, 07 Councillors, Executive Engineer (Solid Waste Management) and Architect of Port Blair Municipal Council is deputed visit to at various places. During the visit toMadurai, the team has interacted with the Mayor & other Officials dealing with Solid Waste Management & Smart City Mission and had a field visit to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Solid Waste Management & Processing Facility Centres.
On 29th August, the PBMC Team visited Goa, to see the India’s one of the successfully implemented & running Municipal Solid Waste Processing Plant situated at Calungute Saligoan, North Goa being established & operated by the Hindustan Waste Treatment Pvt. Ltd. which was inaugurated by Mr.. Manohar Parekar, former Defence Minister of India & present Chief Minister of Goa. The Team interacted with the Mayor & PRI members and other dealing staffs of North Goa, after that, had a field visit to theMunicipal Solid Waste Processing Plant including the Waste to Energy Bio-methanation Plant.
Keeping in the view of the waste management of Port Blair in the largest interest of Cleanliness, in connection with Environment, Health & Hygiene of the Port Blair as well as citizen, Mr.. B. Eswar Rao, Chairperson PBMC desired to have a plant in Port Blair for the scientific management of generated waste, after allotment of suitable piece of land in consultation with District Administration.
