Diglipur, Jul 11: The Directorate of Health Services, Andaman &Nicobar Administration in association with the Union Territory Health Mission Observed “WORLD POPULATION DAY 2017”, at Panchayat hall,Subhash Gram on 11 July 2017, to create awareness about growing Population and
population control and its socio economic implication. This year, thetheme of World Population Day 2017 was ‘Family Planning: EmpoweringPeople, Developing Nations‘.The Programme was attended by students,teachers, anganwadi workers,ASHA’s, Para- Medical Staffs and general public. Shri Awanish Kumar,IAS was the Chief Guest on the occasion and Pramukh, PanchayatSamiti,
Diglipur graced the function as the Guest of honour.
Dr.(Mrs.) Jay Biswas, Chief Medical Officer, CHC Diglipur in her address highlighted the Importance of the day and the ultimategoal of the observance of World Population Day. With power pointpresentation she highlighted about various methods of Populationcontrol such as spacing and permanent methods for male and female forsmall family norms and to stabilize the Population Growth of theCountry. She elaborately described on policies andinitiatives such as Mission ParivarVikas, New Contraceptive Choices,New Family Planning Media Campaign, Scheme for ASHAs to ensure spacingin births etc. Speaking on this occasion BDO Diglipur, SmtiLalitaTigga highlighted about various incidents happening in all around our society and appealedeligible mothers to accept any family planning methods after one ortwo child to control population growth and also urged to the general public especially the women groups to come forward and extendtheir co-operation to stabilize population growth.
Asst Commissioner speaking on this occasion has emphasized on thebenefits of small family as resources can be better utilized whenfamily is small. He also urged to all to love girl child and avoid
female feticide as girls are equal to boys in all respect. He furthersaid that our policy makers should first and foremost be consciousthat the needs of our education are different from the needs of the
more technologically advanced nations if for no other reason than thefact that the latter are not baffled by the hazards of overpopulation. School children were awarded for the winners of essay writingcompetition and nukkadnatak of family planning presented on thisoccasion. A mini exhibition on family planning also organized on thisoccasion.
