Port Blair, Mar 27: The Department of Historical Studies, JNRM observed the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at JNRM auditorium on 23rd March 2017 with full patriotic zeal.
The program was organized by the students of the Historical Studies to pay their tribute and homage to the great revolutionaries who laid down their lives to free motherland from foreign rule.
On 23rd March 1931 they attained Martyrdom at Central Jail, Lahore. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Brig.(retd.) Dr Deshpal, Professor and Head of Department, ENT, ANIIMS and Guest of Honour was Dr RK Halder, Director, ANACS. Cultural programs based on the theme of patriotism, patriotic songs, dances, play and speeches on the life history of martyrs were performed by the students of History Department.
The program began with the lighting of the lamp and paying floral tributes to the martyrs. Dr T Prasad Rao, Asstt. Professor in Historical Studies delivered the inaugural address and mentioned the contribution of revolutionaries in India’s freedom struggle.
Dr K Chanderdeep Singh, Head of Historical Studies department explained the idea behind organizing such events in the wake of recent student unrest in the college and university campuses. Dr Francis N Xavier, Principal JNRM who presided over the function lauded the efforts of students of Historical Studies for such nationalist initiatives. Brig (retd.) Dr Deshpal, Chief Guest of the function emphasized on the role of “idea” in shaping the mindset the youth of today. Vote of thanks was delivered by Biswajeet Mistry, student of Historical Studies.
