Port Blair, June 07: Batting for the tsunami affected farmers of A & N Islands, Mr. P.L. Punia, M.P, Chairman, National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Govt, of India has now requested Home Minister of India settle the issue of Tsunami Relief package without taking farmers’ land. Earlier Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray the Member of Parliament and tsunami hit farmers had requested the Chairperson NCSC to pitch voice for the farmers.
In his letter to the Home Minister of India, the Chairman for National Commission for Scheduled Castes said letter that the farmers are facing untold difficulties as their land were Submerged in the Tsunami of 2004.
“Neither the Tsunami Victims were consulted nor given any participation to decide, when the Tsunami Relief package was finalized by the Islands Administration, resulting unrest among those farmers, as to, they have to lose the land, which they received from their fore fathers, only on receipt of a merge amount of compensation. They requested therefore that the surrendering of land in lieu of compensation should not be made,” Mr. Punia added.
