
Port Blair, Dec 16: A fishing dinghy with 03 crew sailed from Baratang and capsized at the mouth of creek at about 2230 hrs on 15 Dec 16. One of the fishermen swam across and reached Baludera, Baratang and others were reportedly missing.
At about 0820 hrs on 16 Dec 16 Headquarters Coast Guard Region (A&N) was informed by A&N Police Port Blair, about missing fishermen.
On receipt of information, CG helicopter was launched from Port Blair at about 0850 hrs for rescue mission. The CG helicopter undertook search for missing fishermen in area and located body of one of the fishermen which handed over to the search boat in area. The body of second fisherman was also located by Police Search team at around 2.00 pm.
The Coast Guard has reiterated that to avoid delay in launch of search operations Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) is manned 24×7 and all fishermen are advised to contact CG on toll free number 1554 for any assistance at sea. The fishermen are advised to carry adequate number of life saving equipment such as life jackets, life buoys etc while proceeding to sea. A communiqué received from PRO Coast Guard.
