Port Blair, Dec 12: A group of angry people from Adajig and nearby villages of Baratang reportedly manhandled the Junior Engineer (in-charge) of Baratang unit of Electricity Department on 11 December evening.
It has been learnt that the mob, fuming because of power cuts in the region, was led by the Pramukh of the area and other leaders of the area.
As the matter turned serious, staffs of Electricity site office immediately informed the matter to PS Baratang and since next day till 4.00 AM both the parties were present at PS Baratang. Even the AE of Kadamtala also later reached Baratang in this matter.
Later, it is learnt that following a written apology from the side of attackers, including the Pramukh, the Junior Engineer, withdrew his complaint from Police Station.
Perhaps because of this scuffle, there was no power in major areas of Baratang for several hours yesterday, putting general public in deep trouble
