Port Blair, June 06: A meeting of the District Planning Committee(Review), South Andaman District commenced today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sukumar Das, Up Adhyaksh in the Conference Hall of the Zilla Parishad to discuss and review the progress of Sectoral Programmes under Annual Plan 2012-13 as approved by the District Planning Committee during January, 2012. During the meeting, various local issues, including the Buffer Zone issue dominated the discussions of DPC meeting.
Mr. Mohammed Shafique, a PRI member informed the District Planning Committee, that no boundary of buffer zone has been indicated in sea and thus the local fishermen are facing problems. “The Police Department is arresting fishermen for illegal entry inside the Buffer Zone whereas neither the police nor the public know the correct boundary of the buffer zone,” he added. He further suggested increasing the amount given by the Fisheries Department for the construction of fish market.
Mr. Anand Amrit Raj and Mr. Deva Kumar, Zilla Parishad Members jointly suggested to take steps to decrease the rate of fish. Representative of the Fisheries department informed that the matter was under process. Mrs. Sharmila Biswas and Mrs. Balbir Kaur, Zilla Parishad Members demanded fish seeds for farmers and demanded detail about steps taken by the Forest Departments to minimize crocodile attack. Additional PCCF informed that wire net and iron grills have been fixed wherever necessary. Mr. Anand Amrit Raj demanded iron grill at Tushnabad, Ranchi Basthi Nallah.
During discussion about the cutting of dangerous trees Ms. V.K. Mariyam Bibi, Zilla Parishad Member, Wimberlygunj suggested to constitute a separate inspection Committee consisting of Forest department, Revenue, APWD and concerned PRIs to identify such type of trees. In the afternoon session, the meeting was adjourned mid-way due to some administrative reasons.
