Port Blair, June 06: Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), the largest industrial establishment of ANC, celebrated World Environment Day on 05 Jun 12. The day was marked by plantation of saplings by service and civilian staff of the Yard. Pamphlets depicting the importance of World Environment Day and ill-effects of plastics and other non bio-degradable materials were distributed. Banners and posters were displayed at prominent locations to promote awareness amongst all personnel.
Later during the day, a workshop on ‘CONTRIBUTION OF COMMON MAN TOWARDS GREEN ECONOMY’ was conducted. Speaking on the occasion, Commodore R Sreenivas, Commodore Superintendant of the yard (CSY) brought out that the Islands give us very healthy environment to live in and clean air to breath. In return every person of the yard should pledge to contribute their bit for preserving the ecology of the Islands. The yard’s yearly calendar therefore has various environmental events like tree plantations, beach cleanup drive, green campaign etc. He urged all present to take good care of flaura and fauna of the Islands, so that the future generations will continue to have the blessings of the Mother Nature.
Mr. KB Singh (IFS), Chief Conservator of forest (Eco Wild life) and Mr. DP Yadav, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) shared the occasion and delivered talk on the roll of common man in conserving the environment and importance of green economy. The speakers brought out the responsibility of common man towards nurturing the nature and protecting the environment by mindful disposal of non-bio degradable waste.
