Port Blair, Dec 05: Yet another incident of fire has been reported from the Suryachakra Power Plant of Bambooflat this morning. Luckily this time the fire was minor and was controlled by the staffs of Suryachakra or else major parts of South Andaman area would have gone under total darkness.
As per report the fire incident took place at around 11.00 am today. It is learnt that the reason behind this fire is said to be leakage in lubrication pipe and the fire was controlled even before arrival of Fire Brigade team.
Already a major fire inside Suryachakra Power Plant on 5th November 2016, has left South Andaman region under severe power crisis and even today there are rotational load shedding.
On Nov 5, the fire accident, which occurred in DG Unit No. 3 of 20 MW, had reportedly damaged the Unit to a great extent and also damaged two other adjacent units i.e. DG Unit No. 2 & 4 partially.
As per sources today fire broke out from DG Set No. 2 indicating that something is terribly wrong inside the Suryachakra Power Plant.
As the electricity department does not have enough DG sets to generate power for entire South Andaman region, it is largely dependent on Suryachakra Power Plant for all power requirements.
Failure of DG set number 3 recently has already left public reeling under severe power crisis and this is clear that any kind of fault on presently two operational DG sets of Suryachakra will mean total chaos in city.
Hope the Administration will ask Suryachakra to ensure proper maintenance of DG sets so that no such incidents happens in coming days.
