Campbell Bay, Nov 13: More than 50 people of Campbell Bay staged protest outside the Campbell Bay Jetty yesterday evening after the entry inside the Jetty for General Public and Vehicles was prohibited by the Wharf Superintendent of Port Management Board.
As per sources, the Wharf Superintendent, PMB has given orders to his subordinates to prohibit the entry of General Public and vehicles inside the Jetty, one week ago, and since last one week no one, without ticket was allowed to enter inside the Jetty as part of safety precautions, which left people of the area fuming.
The public who were supposed to travel Port Blair yesterday by ship MV Chowra faced enormous trouble as they had to walk a long distance from the entry gate of the Jetty till the ship that too with their luggage and noticing that, the relatives of the passengers as well as Auto Rickshaw drivers staged a protest and demanded entry inside the Jetty.
“In past there were no such restrictions ever at Campbell Bay Jetty, why this kind of ban when there is no need of it? Even there is no trolley in the Jetty which could help us to carry our luggage easily,” said a resident of Campbell Bay.
However, it is learnt that after the high drama some people were allowed inside the jetty on certain conditions.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Chief Port Administrator, PMB, Dr RD Tripathi said that the ban inside the Campbell Bay jetty is only restricted during embarkation and de-embarkation for convenience of people and during that time no people without ticket has been allowed to enter inside the jetty.
“As the jetty is long Trolley has already been sent to Campbell Bay which will be reaching their soon,” Dr Tripathi said.
The party workers of both Bharthiya Janta Party and Congress were also present during the protest.
