Port Blair, Oct 23: Following questions raised by general public about the permissible limit of tint in car glasses, the Superintendent of Police Traffic, Mr Aatmaram V Deshpande has clarified the matter.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha recently, the Superintendent of Police Traffic, Mr Aatmaram V Deshpande stated that as per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, the glasses of windscreen and rear windows of vehicles should have a visual light transmission of 70 per cent while 50 per cent visibility was mandatory for the side windows and that too that should be originally or naturally created by the manufacturer.
He further added that the Supreme Court, acting on a Public Interest Litigation, has banned any amount of tint on the windows, even if the tint was within permissible limits. He finally said that therefore no one is allowed to place any amount of tint in their windows artificially and if anyone does so he will be punished under appropriate Section.
Recently a press release was issued by the Traffic Police Unit in which General Public were asked not to use tint beyond the permissible limit in the glasses of their Vehicles. The press release had created much confusion among the general public as the permissible limit was not mentioned in the Press Release.
