Port Blair, Oct 13: A serious accident which could have killed dozens of people early this morning, was very professionally handled by a truck driver, after the truck, he was driving with heavy Idol of Goddess Durga, suffered a break fail that too at Chatham-Haddo Slope.
According to reports the incident took place at around 3.00 am today when a local puja committee was heading towards Chatham for Idol immersion.
As per eye witnesses while traveling downhill, the truck driver detected brake-fail in his truck but without getting panicked he turned his truck sharp right and hit solid retaining wall on the right side of the road, near a temple. Sadly to his utter dismay the truck again started rolling backward but again the driver used his presence of mind and took the truck towards the other side of the road and hit steel fence. With this the truck came to a total halt. Thus presence of mind exhibited by an alert truck driver save many precious lives.
