Port Blair, Sept 23: The Tourism sector in A&N Islands has witnessed tremendous growth in the recent years especially hospitality sector with more number of hotels opening of in outlying Islands. There are at present 150 hotels/resorts in Port Blair, 50 at Havelock and 33 at Neil Islands – the prime destinations in A&N Islands. Availability of trained manpower in hospitality sector in the Island is a perennial issue, hence to bridge the skill gap in the tourism sector, to raise the quality of service and to open livelihood opportunities for local youth of the Islands, the Department of Tourism, A&N Administration jointly with Dr. B.R Ambedkar Institute & Technology (DBRAIT), Port Blair, organizing a number of courses in Hospitality sector at BRAIT Viz. Hospitality certificate course in Food and Beverage Services & Accommodation Operation & Hospitality Certificate course in Food Production and Bakery.
Under the Food Production and Bakery courses, trainee will get opportunity to learn about preparation of Indian, Continental menu, preparation of various snacks, soups, sauces as well as method for preparation of Cakes & icing, puff pastry, short crust and biscuits etc. Whereas, under Food & Beverages and Housekeeping training courses, trainee will learn the basic principle for preparation of menu and menu planning, room service etc and all the techniques required for being good housekeeper in any classified hotels. The fee for each course is Rs 3000/- (inclusive of raw material cost) and once selected, shall be deposited in the form of demand draft drawn in favour of “Principal, DBRAIT, Pahargaon, Port Blair”. The duration of the course will be 30 working days (6 hours per day with practical classes).
The date for receipt of application has been extended and fixed on 30th Sept. 2016 so that candidates from inter islands can also avail the opportunity and get employed themselves. All interested candidates, having minimum of 8th pass certificate in CBSE schooling system can submit their application to Manager (Operational), Directorate of Tourism, Port Blair on or before 30.09.2016 by 1.00 pm. The training will commence from 04.10.2016. After completion of the course, a certificate will be issued by DBRAIT in association with Tourism Department.
