Port Blair, September 15: The deficit of Rs 10 crores of the Port Blair Municipal Council has come down to Rs 2.5 crores, said the Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal Council, Mrs Sheela Singh today.
Addressing a Press Conference at the Conference Hall, PBMC, the Chairperson said that when she took over the charge of the PBMC Chairperson the deficit of PBMC was around 10 crores and presently due to sustained efforts of her, all councillors and staffs of PBMC, the deficit has come down to nearly 2.5 crores.
She said that this year PBMC has earned 14 crores extra from Octroi.
She said no water curtailment took place this year in any Municipal ward and augmentation of pipelines is being done in various wards under the scheme of GOI AMRUT.
The Revenue Department has also allotted thirty three parcels of land to the PBMC all around the Municipal Wards some set a parts and some allotments which will be developed for community purposes. Mrs Sheela added.
“Even no extra funds were allotted by the Ministry of Urban Development for the extended six wards but the PBMC anyhow managed the show,” Mrs Sheela Singh said.
The PBMC has provided water connections to more than 300-400 families staying at Brookshabad ward number 21 and 22 which is one of the best achievements of the PBMC during her tenure, she added.
