Port Blair, July 3: The team of 20 Grenadier Army has won the RSC volleyball championship. In an exciting final match of the RSC Open League-cum-knockout Volleyball tournament-2016, played at Multipurpose Hall of Netaji Stadium here this evening, the team of 20 Grenadier Army defeated 154 TA Bihar in straight sets by 25 -22, 25-20 and 27-25. The Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd.) as the chief guest witnessed the final match. The Chairperson PBMC, Smt. Sheela Singh, the Secretary PBMC, Shri Udit Prakash Rai were also present.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Lt. Governor complimented the Regional Sports Council for conducting the event in a befitting manner. While congratulating the winners, the Lt. Governor appreciated both teams for displaying a good volleyball match with true sportsman spirit. The Lt Governor, Chairperson PBMC, and Secretary PBMC, jointly gave away prizes to the winners and runners up.
The winning team of 20 Grenadier Army received trophy and a cash prize of Rs 11,000/- while the runners up team of 154 TA Bihar got a cash prize of Rs 6000/-. Shri Kuldeep of the winning team was adjudged as the man of the match. A good number of sports lovers enjoyed the breath-taking volleyball final.
In his welcome address before the start of the final match, the General Secretary RSC, Shri K Ganeshan stated that altogether 10 teams participated in the Volleyball tournament which started on June 25. He also urged the Administration for creating a second multi-purpose hall at the land vacant near the Swimming Pool; which can be used for conducting Badminton and Table Tennis tournaments.
