Port Blair, July 3: Mr Keshab Barikdar of Citizen Forum on Human Rights and National Human Rights Committee of India, A&N Islands recently met Lt Governor, Lt Gen AK Singh (Retd), at Raj Niwas and discussed various issues pertaining to the welfare of the people and the Islands. Issues such as proper implementation of Citizen Charter, non-issuance of Bar License, development of better relation between general public and Govt. employees and speedy justice to women suffering from domestic violence were discussed. The Human Rights group also raised issues such as formation of State level Committee on Human rights and a speedy dispute resolution mechanism with the involvement of NGOs for the welfare of the citizen.
The Lt Governor appreciated the efforts being made by the Citizen Forum and Human Right Committee, A&N Islands by taking up the issues relating to women and other needy section of the society. He assured them that the Administration in association with NGOs and other social organizations will develop proper mechanism to resolve the dispute/problems related to women/other needy people. In line with this, ‘Arunodaya’-Centre for Holistic Wellness including Crisis Response Centre for Women has been established in Junglighat on June 21 to deal with people in need.
