Port Blair, June 17: Acting on complaints about over-charging entry fee from crew members, vehicle owners and commuters at Haddo wharf, the Chairperson, Municipal Council, Smt Sheela Singh along with Mr S.N.N.Gregory, JVC, Mr Someshwar Rao, Ward Councillor and other Councillors viz. Arubadi, and Eshwar Rao visited the Port area on Thursday to ascertain the veracity of the complaints.
The Municipal team found that the security personnel were charging entry fee from crew members, labourers and others every time they enter the wharf area. Smt Singh immediately discussed the issue with the Chief Port Administrator over phone during which the latter explained that there was some confusion among the security personnel on the office order and they couldn’t understand the actual system of charging entry fee from crew members and other port officials. After the intervention of the civic chief the issue has now been settled as entry fee is now being charged only once in a day from the port officials and other crew members.
