Port Blair, May 10: The Lt Governor has directed the Secretary, PBMC and DC (SA) to take strict action against those people including Govt. departments who carelessly dump and store construction material on roads thus encroaching upon road space. Reports are being received that some contractors dump construction material carelessly on the road space and leave the construction equipment and trucks on road causing great inconvenience to the road users and vehicular traffic. It is also being noticed that even after completion of the construction activities, the contractors do not remove the structures that lead to encroachment on Govt. land.
The Lt Governor has directed that the site Engineer of APWD (JEs concerned) will personally be responsible for obtaining requisite permission for erecting temporary structures and its removal after completion of the project. The APWD has also been directed to ensure that the structure erected on the road sides are only utilized for storing construction materials and not for accommodation of labourer as this leads to unhygienic condition in the surrounding areas & also further leads to encroachment.
The Lt Governor further directed the CE, APWD to check that no temporary shed exists after completion of the construction work as it has become a common practice of allowing the sheds to continue after the completion of the work. The Lt Governor also directed the DC (SA) to bring down all such illegal constructions and keep the places hygienically clear and clean. Such act of dumping construction material on roads besides causing road accidents and problem to the movement of vehicles also endangers the lives of people.
