Monetary compensation in lieu of submerged land
Port Blair, May 10: The Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI has given in principle approval of monetary compensation in lieu of submerged land to the tsunami affected farmers of the A&N Islands. A letter from the Home Ministry conveying the approval has been received by the A&N Administration.
The letter from the Home Ministry also mentioned that since this scheme is to be taken from the Plan Head, approval of Expenditure Finance Committee will be required. After getting all the clearance, approval to the proposal of the A&N Islands Administration will be conveyed shortly. Memo for the EFC has already been sent by the A&N Administration to the MHA.
It may be recalled that in order to disburse monetary compensation to the tsunami affected farmers, Lt Gen (Rtd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM, Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands had personally met Shri P. Chidambaram, Union Home Minister and urged upon him to convey the sanction of the Govt. of India as early as possible to disburse the money in lieu of submerged land to the affected farmers.
