Port Blair, Mar 14: The Annual General Body Meeting of the South Andaman Teachers’ Branch of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association was held today at Kerala Samajam Hall, Port Blair. Shri Shahnawaz Khan, Principal (Retd.), Education Department, inaugurated the Annual General Body Meeting at 10 a.m.
Addressing the well-attended meeting, Shri Shahnawaz Khan appreciated the role of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association and South Andaman Teachers’ Branch in settling various issues of teachers working in these islands from grant of AFSP, residential quarter to local employees, ACP scheme to teachers and the issue of extension of working hours of teachers.
He urged the government employees to fight for their demands while performing their duty sincerely and with devotion. Shri D.Ayyappan, Former General Secretary of the Association highlighted the present situation, where the government is forcefully trying to impose anti-employee policies on the government servants and dismantling government sector.
The President of the Association, Shri H.L.Prasad spoke about the glorious past of NGOs’ Association as well as South Andaman Teachers’ Branch and enlightened the gathering about the burning issues before the government servants after submission of 7th Pay Commission report to the Govt. of India.
Shri R. Surendran Pillai, Secretary, South Andaman Teachers’ Branch presented the working report for the last one year while Shri Sasi Kumar, Treasurer presented the Audited Accounts.
Resolutions on various issues concerning the teachers were discussed and adopted by the meeting. Addressing the teachers in the meeting, Shri T.S.Sreekumar, General Secretary of the Association recalled the valiant struggles conducted by the Association during the last 60 years. He also exhorted government employees about the need of unity among employees as National Joint Council of Action (NJCA), New Delhi has decided even indefinite strike for various demands of Central Govt. employees.
The General Body meeting honoured the Chief Guest, Shri Shahnawaz Khan, Shri H L Prasad and Shri G.Sanyal for their contributions to the education department as teachers.
A large number of teachers working at various schools at Port Blair and South Andaman areas attended the meeting. Earlier, Shri G.P.Mandal, Vice President of the South Andaman Teachers’ Branch who presided over the General Body meeting welcomed the Chief Guest and others present in the meeting. Before the beginning of the meeting, a condolence resolution, moved by Shri R.Sashi Kumar, was adopted. Shri H B Choudhary, Joint Secretary, SATB proposed Vote of Thanks.
