Port Blair, Jan.27: On 31.10.2015 on receipt of credible information about illicit Ganja, a police team of PS Hut Bay had conducted a raid at R.B. Nagar, Little Andaman and arrested one person namely Makhan Sarkar with 1.1477 kg illicit Ganja. On interrogation, the accused had revealed that the said consignment of Ganja was received at Little Andaman through courier from West Bengal sent by Provakar Mallick in the form of postal parcel. The said Provakar Mallick was the resident of Gopi Nagar village, Gangnapur, Nadia District, West Bengal. He was also involved in few other NDPS & cheating cases of these Islands which are pending trial.
Upon this a police team headed by Insp. Vishal Ram, I.O of the case was deputed to West Bengal. On the basis of source of information the team succeeded in the arrest of Provakar Mallick on 13.01.2016 from Nadia District, West Bengal. He was brought to Port Blair and produced before the Hon’ble Special Judge, District and Session Court on 18.01.2016 from where he was remanded to Judicial Custody.
This arrest underlines the commitment of Andaman Police to go to any extent to apprehend the anti-social elements involved in drug trafficking in the Islands and to prevent entry of such contraband in these Islands.
