Port Blair, Jan 27: Fisheries Science Division, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nicobar successfully conducted two 3 days training programmes at Car Nicobar under Tribal Sub Plan. First training was on “Maintenance and Upkeep of fishing inputs provided under TSP” organized at Tapoiming Village from 19th to 21st January, 2016 in which Shri Lawrence Mathew, First Headman of the village graced the inaugural session as Chief Guest. Second training was on “Modern Technologies in Marine fisheries” at Big Lapathy Village from 21st to 23rd January, 2016. Shri Manuah Thomas, First Headman of Big Lapathy village presided over the inaugural session as Chief Guest. The headmen of the respective villages appreciated the efforts of ICAR-CIARI for providing modern fishing inputs along with capacity building programmes for promoting modernization of marine capture fisheries in these Islands. During the trainings, Shri K. Lohith Kumar and Shri. J. Raymond Jani Angel, Scientists of ICAR- CIARI and Dr. Zachariah George, Shri S. K. Pandey, Er. Chandrika Ram, Shri A. K. Pandey and Shri S. K. Singh of ICAR- KVK, Nicobar imparted knowledge to the trainees through theory and practical sessions. Use of GPS for safe and efficient fishing, installation and maintenance of OBM engines, deep freezers etc. were also demonstrated to the trainees. A total of 77 trainees including 20 female and 57 male participated and got benefitted from the training.
