Port Blair, Jan 21: As part of Coast Guard raising day celebrations, the Indian Coast Guard Station, Mayabunder along with volunteers of NCC cadets of MGG College and Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School Mayabunder conducted a Walkathon on Jan 17 to spread the message of ‘Clean and Green Islands’ among the local populace. The walk was flagged off by Smt Vanjula Valli Karthick, Divisional Forest Officer, Mayabunder.
The participants treaded along all vantage points of the area starting from Mayabunder Jetty. Port Control, DFO Office, DC Office, Police Station Tel Exchange, Panchayat Samiti Office, Danapur, Rampur enroute and concluded at the theme of the event was ”Clean Mayabunder, Green Mayabunder”. About, 100 college, school students and NCC cadets participated in the Walkathon along with Coast Guard personnel and Forest Officials.
The environmental walkathon was aimed at increasing awareness on cleanliness and protecting our environment. The Station Commander, Commandant SR Patil complimented all volunteers and participants for making the event a grand success.
