Diglipur, December 07: With the commencement of Rabi season, every year, Rabi campaign is organized by the Department of Agriculture to give more emphasis on the package of practices of field crops, adoption of Organic farming, Crop Insurance, Minor Irrigation etc. and in order to encourage and generate awareness among the farmers to attain maximum productivity and higher yield from Rabi crops viz., pulses, oilseeds, vegetables etc., during Rabi season. The first campaign at Diglipur was organized at Ramnagar village by the Department of Agriculture in association with UTATMA on 5th December 2015.
The programme was graced by the presence of Mr Shyamal Mondal, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Diglipur as Chief Guest.
To create awareness among people about the importance of soil, the Agriculture Department also celebrated “World Soil Health Day” with the rest of the world at Ramnagar village and to mark the day, 253 nos. of soil health card were distributed to the farmers by the Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Diglipur.
At the outset, Mrs. Sreedevi, Assistant Director (Agri.), Diglipur welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of rabi campaign and the importance of Soil. She said that soil is an important ingredient of human life and it is necessary to celebrate World Soil Health day to make the people realize its importance and also to create awareness of the importance of healthy soils for food security, ecosystem functions, and sustainable development.
Mr Anjan Kumar Das, Joint Director (Agri), North and Middle Andaman District explained in detail about the importance of soil health card highlighting that the cards will have technical and other key information regarding cultivation of the land concerned and details of type of soil and the proper crops to be cultivated in it. Further he
pleaded the farmers to adopt organic farming and urged the farmers to avail the benefits of departmental schemes of RKVY, HVA scheme in Adarsh Gram. Mr Subodh Mondal, Zilla Parishad Member, Kalighat expressed his happiness for conducting the rabi campaign and for distribution of soil health card to farmers and urged them to apply the fertilizers as per the status of soil fertility.
Later on Mrs Shirly Thomas, Assistant Director (Soil), N & M Andaman narrated on the importance of organic farming and the use of various bio-formulations for soil enrichment for sustainable Agriculture development. Mr Navasakthi, DPD, ATMA discussed on importance of soil health and the role of major nutrients for better crop vigour and Mr N.C. Mallick, Surveyor described in detail about the schemes of Minor Irrigation. It is proposed to conduct such programmes in all the 15 Gram Panchayats of Diglipur zone.
Altogether 40 farmers attended the programme with great enthusiasm and the programme ended with vote of thanks by Mrs Shirly Thomas, Assistant Director (Soil), N & M Andaman.
