Diglipur, December 07: The Agriculture Department, Diglipur in association with UTATMA organized a two days training programme on bee-keeping at Keralapuram on 03rd and 04th December 2015.
On the inaugural day, Mrs Shirly Thomas, A.D (Agri.) Diglipur welcomed the gathering and explained the scope and potential of bee keeping in the island condition and exhorted the participants to adopt this venture as an enterprise.
Mr Sankar Das, Pradhan, Keralapuram expressed his heartiest thanks to the Agriculture Department, Diglipur for organizing such a programme covering both theoretical and practical classes. During the technical session, Mrs R. Bhu Bharthy, AA, Mrs S. Manju, AA discussed various aspects of beekeeping, types of honey bees, rearing, care and management of Apiary etc. The training programme was organized in the field of Shri Ravi Menon of Keralapuram village.
During the field visit, the beneficiaries were taken to the field of Mr Laxman Das, Kalipur where he practically demonstrated honey collection with honey extractor, identification of Queen, drones and worker bees, division of bee colonies and the benefit of Bee Keeping.
The participants were also taken to Multipurpose Farm Keralapuram and Coconut Farm V.S.Pally with a view to show in detail about bee keeping and other activities .The farmers actively interacted with the farm incharges and clarified their doubts on bee keeping.
