Port Blair, Dec 1: The Andaman College (ANCOL) organized an awareness program to mark World Aids Day 2015 observance on the theme “Achieving Zero New HIV infections” on Tuesday.
In his address, the Principal of ANCOL, Dr R Dev Das highlighted on the importance of the observance of the day. He said that proper awareness can root out this evil from the deep. World leaders have unanimously committed to ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted in September. It is the responsibility of everyone to come forward for ending this epidemic from the Earth He further added that safe physical relationship, safe blood and safe medical tools are the protective measures and the pregnant women checkup can prevent newly born baby from this deadly disease.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr Pusphavalli, HOD, English Department and convener of the even said that the day is observed for taking stock of the problems and challenges that humanity is facing because of HIV/AIDS. She added that every child can be born free from HIV to mothers who not only survive but thrive. Ending AIDS is essential to the success of every Woman every Child and the Global Strategy.
Mr S Partiban, HOD (Sociology) from the faculty side and Safeeka Banu representing the students also spoke on the occasion. Mr Avinash, HOD (Music) also presented a song based on the theme during the occasion.
The students of English department affixed red ribbons to the faculties and students of the college appealing them all to spread the message among the populace. A Inter departmental Rangoli competition was also organized in which Music, BCom and English departments bagged the first three positions
