Port Blair, Nov 6: The Port Blair Municipal Council has made special provision for collection of taxes charged for various services of the Council on Saturdays and Sunday. In a release, the Secretary, Municipal Council, has urged all citizens including government servants and users of PBMC services to use the above opportunity and to avoid the termination of PBMC services to their household and commercial enterprises including disconnection of water supply Additionally, paying user charges on or before 23rd November also enables them to avoid the payment of late fee charges of 2%.
PBMC, as an elected urban local body, supplies treated water to the urban residents of Port Blair at a highly concessional rate of Rs. 40/- per tap connection per month. The water charges levied by the PBMC are at a flat rate and one of the lowest in the country. Huge arrears are pending from the domestic and commercial water connections in the PBMC area. As a result, PBMC is facing difficulty in augmenting the water quality and supply to the residents. Likewise, huge arrears are pending from the property owners on property tax and conservancy tax , and from the tenants of Municipal market as rent. Citizens have been requested to pay the arrears and current monthly charges to PBMC on or before 23rd November, 2015.
