Port Blair, Oct 09: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, CIARI, has organized a three days training programme from 07th to 9th October on ‘Preparation of low cost balanced diet’ for practicing farmwomen at Hari Nagar, Middle Andaman. The inaugural session was graced by Dr. R.K Gautam ,Principal Scientist & Head , Division of Field Crops Improvement, CIARI, Dr Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist, Head, PME Cell, CIARI & Dr. P. K Singh, Senior Scientist, Division of Field Crops Improvement, CIARI. Dr R. K. Gautam appreciated interests of the participants and discussed about the role of a balanced diet for achieving nutritional security. Dr Zameer Ahmed interacting with the trainees advised them to disseminate the knowledge gained from this training for the betterment of the whole community. Dr .P.K. Singh appreciated the enthusiasm & zeal of the participants and asked them to adopt various farm technologies developed by CIARI. Dr. Pooja kapoor, SMS (Home Science) briefed about the objectives of the training programme and highlighted the importance and need of consuming a well balanced diet for the whole family.
Shri D. Basantia, SMS (Horticulture) discussed about role of fruits & vegetables in daily diet and Dr. Shardul. Vikram Lal SMS (Animal Science) briefed about nutritional importance of animal & milk products.Sh. B.L Meena organized a field visit to KVK farm to show 09 different varieties of paddy developed by CIARI. The training also included preparation & demonstration of various low cost nutritious recipes.
Pradhan, Hari Nagar ,was the chief guest in the valedictory session. He lauded the efforts of KVK, N & M Andaman for organizing training on apt subject, he further emphasized the need of such training programmes for improving the health of rural people. Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist & Head ,KVK,N & M Andaman was the guest of honor, he discussed in brief about the role of different nutrients in human body and urged the participants to utilize the techniques and knowledge imparted in trainings and invited them to KVK for further technical assistance. A total of 33 farmwomen participated in the training programme. The training was organized under the guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinath and Dr. Nagesh Ram and under the supervision of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
