Port Blair, Oct 9: In pursuance to regulation 18(2) of the A & N Islands (Municipal) Regulation, 1994 and the guidelines framed for holding of election to Sub-Committees by means of the single transferable vote, a notice of election to the Committees was issued recently. As per the schedule, nominations were received on Oct 8 for the five Sub-Committees of Port Blair Municipal Council. As the number of candidates was more than the number of vacancies to be filled up, an election by means of single transferable vote was held on Tuesday.
Accordingly, Mr Indrapal Singh, Mr M Arumugam, Smt Anusia Devi, Mr CH Babu and Mr Ramjan Ali were elected members for the Sub Committee of Finance, Taxation and Accounts, while Smt Vinita Malhota, Mr K Ganeshan, Mr Ramjan Ali, Mr Sanjay Meshack and Mr Dharmendra Narayan were elected members for the Sub Committee for Public Health and Sanitation. Similarly, for the Sub Committee for Works, Town Planning and Improvement, Mr B Eswar Rao, Smt Vaishali Rani Dayal, Mr NK Udhaya Kumar, Mr S Karunakaran and Smt Rubana Aziz were elected members. Smt Rubana Aziz, Mr K Arubadi, Mr R Someswara Rao, Smt E Rani and Smt Anusia Devi were elected members for the Sub Committee for Water Works, while Mr Dharmendra Narayan, Smt Upasana Prasad, Mr R Someswara Rao, Mr Sanjay Meshack and Mr CH Babu were elected members for the Sub Committee for Education and Social Justice.
