Port Blair, Oct 9: The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) conducted a two-day training programme on scientific cultivation of Anthurium, tuberose and banana as livelihood option for farmers of Harminder Bay, Little Andaman under TSP programme recently. The village Headman, Mr. Fred Lavi inaugurated the training programme in which 54 farmers participated. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. V. Baskaran, Senior Scientist, CIARI, Port Blair under the guidance and supervision of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. He briefed the farmers about the production technology of anthurium and tuberose. Dr. K. Abirami, Scientist, CIARI, Port Blair interacted with the farmers about the scientific production technology of banana. Planting material of banana, anthurium, tuberose and agricultural inputs like grow bags, coir compost, polythene mulch and rose cans were given to the farmers under the TSP programme of ICAR- CIARI. Demonstrations on planting flower crops and banana in a participatory approach was also held during the programme.
