Port Blair, June 10: On 09.06.2015 a police team led by SI Mohanan from OP Tirur alongwith the field staff of AAJVS while conducting anti poaching operation at Bada Balu by AAJVS engine dinghy apprehended two engine dinghies and four oar (halis) dinghies with 13 fishermen for trespassing into the Jarawa reserve area. On searching their dinghies, two baskets used by Jarawas alongwith crabs were found in their possession.
Enquiry revealed that on 08/06/15 they had entered into Jarawa reserve area at Bada Balu for catching fish. On 9.6.15 at about 7 AM they were fishing there when they were apprehended by police. They were not having valid license/permit for entering Jarawa reserve area. They were also found exploiting Jarawa Aboriginal Tribes by promising them to give rice in return of crabs.
All the arrested fishermen namely (1) M. Bhaskar Rao, 52 Yrs (2) K. Ramiah, 40 Yrs (3) G. Yadav Rao, 29 Yrs (4) Prakash, 39 Yrs (5) G. Eshwar Rao, 45 Yrs (6) M. Tammaiah, 40 Yrs (7) G. Goraiah, 42 Yrs (8) D. Sanmukh Rao, 32 Yrs (9) A. Rama Rao, 30 Yrs (10) B. Krishan Rao, 40 Yrs (11) Jogi Simhadri, 45 Yrs (12) K. Somayya, 50 yrs, all R/o Fisheries Colony, Junglighat and (13) Yogeswar Rao, 50 Yrs R/o Tsunami Pahar, Bambooflat were booked under sections 3(V) of SC/ST (POA)Act 1989 r.w.s 7/8 PAT Reg. 1956 vide case crime No.57/15 dated 09/06/15 registered at PS Ograbraj.
The investigation of the case has been taken up by Shri M.A. Naushad, SDPO(Bambooflat) who produced all the above persons before the Hon’ble Court of CJM at Port Blair today on 10.06.15, from where they have been sent to JC remand for 7 days. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
