Billyground, May 8: Public rage is at its zenith and a massive demonstration looms large in Middle Andaman region over lopsided distribution of LPG refills. According to reports, LPG cylinders in the Middle Andaman area have not been supplied since April 2015 and homemakers are forced to use firewood for daily chores. To add to the despair, telephonic LPG booking facility has gone haywire of late with repeated calls from consumers bearing no response.
“It’s has been more than 30 days that the truck with LPG refills has ventured into our area. Consumers are seething in anger over the inordinate delay in supply of LPG cylinders and people are forced to employ alternate resources to keep their kitchen fire burning. Moreover, availing the LPG Booking Number at Port Blair has become a waste of time. Repeated calls, often more than 15 times, bears no response. It appears that the telephone operator remain in slumber during working hours. Annoyed villagers are planning a massive protest against the apathy of the authorities in ensuring timely supply of LPG refills,” said some engaged villagers of Billyground.
The population at Billyground has staged a number of demonstrations including road blockades in the past over delay in supply of LPG cylinders. To keep another public outburst at bay, the CCS management at Port Blair should act promptly and dispatch LPG cylinders to the offended region at the earliest.
