Port Blair, Mar 22: The Bharathiya Nava-Varsha Aayojak Mandali, Rangat, Madhya Andaman” celebrated the “BHARATHIYA NAVA-VARSHA VIKRAM SAMVAT-2072”/ KALIYUGABDHA- 5117” on 21 March 2015 at 5.30 PM at Rangat.
The Bharathhiya Nava-Varsha celebration started with lighting Lamp by Chief Guest Shri. Vikas Ahlawat Assistant Commissioner, Andaman followed by cultural programme and address to the audience by the distinguished guests. Shri. Sumit Choudhary Executive Engineer, Rangat, Guest of Honour and other distinguished guest Viz Shri.C.K.Paul (Rtd Senior Teacher), Shri.D.K.Roy (Rtd Teacher/Head Master) Shri.Robin Biswas Rtd Teacher/Head Master) and Dr.B.Bindu Kumar (Medical Officer) spoke on the occasion and enlightened the Audience about the importance and significance of observing “BHARATHIYA NAVA-VARSHA -VIKRAM SAMVAT-2072”, so that the present generation gets to know about the Rich Scientific & Cultural heritage of our ancient civilization and Country.
This day is also observed as the Telugu and Kannad New year “UGADI” and Maharashtra News year “GUDI PADVA”. This day also marks the beginning of “NAV-RATHRA” followed by “SRI RAM-NAVAMI” festival on 28th March 2015.
VIKRAM SAMVAT or Vikram Era was started in 57 BC by Maharaja Vikramaditya as a commemoration of his victory upon the Shaks. This victory took place at Ujjain, one among the four places associated with Kumbh Mela. There are numerous ancient Hindu cultural significance attached to this calendar system and for its accurate calculation in ancient astrology and astronomy.
The New Year starts on Chaitra Shuk’la Pratipada (March – April) and this year the Nav Samvat begins on March 21 2015. The current New Year 2072 is first day after the Amavasi (No moon) in the month of Chaitra and is known as “KEELAK SAMVATSAR” (There are sixty Samvatsaras that comes in cycle). Samvat is a short form of the Sanskrit word ‘Samvatsar’, literally meaning ‘Year’. This calculation of Hindu New Year is based on the Luni-Solar calendar.
A month in the calendar is calculated from the day after full moon to full moon (Pratipada tithi after Purnima to Purnima). This is known as Purnimanta system. The calendars followed mainly in North India are based on the Amanta and Purnimanta system. Amanta calendar is calculated from New moon to New moon. The Amanta Lunar calendar starts with Chaitra month.
Maharaja Vikramaditya is popularly known for the stories of “VIKRAM-AUR-VETALA” among children and he is very well-known for his “Sauryam, Dhairyam, Dharma-pālana, Kalā-poṣhaṇa and accomplishing many impossible tasks. Exactly on Śrī Rāmanavami day, as told by the Prayāga puruṣha Śrī Vikramāditya mahārāja did Jīrṇoddharaṇam of the Ayodhyā kṣhetram and Bhavyamandira nirmāṇam during his reign as the emperor of Bharata.
