Port Blair, Mar 21: A 67-year-old resident of Port Blair has been detained from Port Blair Airport on Saturday for carrying three live cartridges of SLR (Self Loading Rifle).
According to details available here the person, Mr. Karikalan has been detained by the CISF first at Port Blair’s Veer Savarkar International airport while baggage scanning and was later handed over to local police.
According to police the person, who used to run a Printing Press at Babulane area of Port Blair had got these cartridges as gift from a defence officer nearly 15 years back and while travelling to Chennai today his wife reportedly kept the cartridge in his bag while packing, by mistake.
Mr. Karikalan has been brought to Aberdeen Police Station for further investigation and police is presently digging out more details about the background of the person. Mr. Karikalan was travelling to Chennai via GoAir flight yesterday afternoon.
