Port Blair, Feb 26: As a part of the National Science Day (NSD) 2015 today on 26th February, 2015, a Poster Display Competition, Mini Science Quiz and “Ek Mulakat Vayganik ke saath” was conducted at Garacharma Research Complex.
In Poster Display competition for children on the theme “Science for Nation Building” a total of 14 students comprising from Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Prothrapor , Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bathu Basti and Govt. Senior Secondary School, Prothrapor participated. Miss Runa & Rina jointly of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Prothrapor were adjudged 1st, Miss A. Sreelatha, 2nd of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Prothrapor and Master R. Ganapathi of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bathu Basti for 3rd Prize. Beside the other participants were selected for consolation prizes. Dr. Jaisunder, Senior Scientist, Coordinated the event.
During Mini Science Quiz (MSQ) conducted which were participated by students from the above three schools of South Andaman, the student groups from Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir bagged the first position, followed by Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bathu Basti and Govt. Senior Secondary School, Prothrapor, Second and third position respectively. The prizes of all events will be given on 28th February, 2015 during the valedictory function at Garacharma Research Complex. Mr. Amit Srivastava, Coordinated the event.
The highlight of the programme was “Ek Mulakat Vayganik ke saath”, chaired by Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, ICAR-CIARI, wherein the students and the scientists got the opportunity to interact directly with each other and could understand the different work undertaken by the diversified team of scientists of the Institute. The students raised quality questions during the session which were appreciated by the team of scientists and answered suitability. Further the Director informed the students and the teachers to be in touch and can visit the Institute any time to know and learn about opportunities in agriculture and allied field. He also lauded the Posters made by the students which were of good quality with message on Science for Nation Building. A total of 33 students participated alongwith team of scientists from Division of Horticulture & Forestry, Field Improvement and Protection, Natural Resource Management, Animal Science, Fisheries Science, Social Science and KVK. Dr. R.K. Gautam, HoD, Field Crops, coordinated the event.
On 27th February, 2015 Innovative Programme for the farm women, staff ladies and home makers will be conducted wherein Smt. Ranjita Dam Roy, Chairperson, Ladies Club will be the Chief guest.
