Kalighat, Feb 21: Communist Party of India (M) North and Middle Andaman Zonal Committee of Billyground Unit today staged a Dharna at Kalighat Bazar of Diglipur demanding permanent Bridge between Kalighat and Nischintapur Nallah at Kalighat Jetty. The Dharna, which started today morning at 9AM and continued till 6 PM and ended up with a public meeting which was held at Kalighat bazaar.
The Nishchintapur Village, a settlement area, consists of about 250 people. People of this area used to cross a wooden bridge on the Kalighat Creek. Every year the bridge used to collapse during rainy season and the Nabagram Panchayat used to repair it every year.
Whenever the bridge is collapsed, people cross the creek, which is famous for crocodiles, in wooden Dinghies. Two months back while crossing the creek, a girl student fell in the creek but luckily she escaped unhurt.
A foundation stone was laid by Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, M.P. Andaman & Nicobar in 2002 but the foundation stone was removed recently by unknown person. Now the public of the area are demanding immediate construction of a permanent bridge over the creek.
