Port Blair, Feb 12: When all the politicians and bureaucrats are busy congratulating players of these Islands for winning medals in 35th National Games, everyone very conveniently forgot the people behind the scene who toiled hard to ensure that these medals are for sure.
This is not the first time the Coaches have been neglected. This has been happening for years. Coaches are always the unsung heroes. No one cares to congratulate the Coaches for their efforts in ensuring the medal through the players.
It is the hard work of a Coach, which makes a raw player, a medal winning talent. Player excels because of the hard work put in by the coach but the perseverance of the Coach is no less. He is the person who toils hard day and night to ensure that the player becomes a National treasure.
It is strange to note that the so-called Sports Administrators are always seen in photo with the winning players. But the Coaches have no space even there. It is high time the administration to recognise people behind the scene and give them their due share of glory. When prize money is announced, Coaches should get at least 20% of the prize money on each medal won by his disciple. This will not only ensure that the Coach is motivated to bring much more laurels for the State, but also ensure that those contract Coaches surviving on petty salary of twenty four thousand a month give their best to ensure that they have a respectable income to survive, and dream high for the country.
Former coaches living in deplorable condition and anonymous to present set of sportspersons are hoping against hope that the Administration will deliver justice to these unsung heroes. It will ensure that these heroes get the share of limelight they deserve.
