Port Blair, Feb 02: The National Cooperative Union of India, Cooperative Education Field Project, (Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperation), A & N Island Unit has organized a Inaugural programme for four days duration Basic Training Course on Handicraft with Cane & Bamboo at Panchayat Hall, Garacharma-II recently (30.01.2015). Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, N A & N State Coop. Union was the chief guest on the occasion. In his brief address, the chief guest lauded the efforts of the National Cooperative Union of India, Cooperative Education Field Project, A & N Island unit for organizing such a meaningful training for the ultimate benefit of women folk/members of Self Help Group living at the grass root level of the society.
He said that through this training programme, a large number of house wives living in adjacent areas will be trained to work on handicraft with this skill they will be able to earn some money for their respective families as the leisure time by obtaining bank loans through their respective SHGs. Welcoming the gathering Shri Surendranath Singh, Project Officer, National Cooperative Union of India, Coop. Education Field Project, A & N Island Unit has said that these are large scope for the rural women to establish their self employment based on availability of raw materials handicraft from cane and bamboo is one of income oriented opportunities.
He urged the women members of SHG to take more advantage of such training programme and implemented in the field. Shri Abdul Rasheed, Assistant Registrar of Coop. Societies, Cooperative department in his address urged the women to be benefitted from SHG by promoting income generating activities, as SHG is the best means of economic and social reform. Shri L.B. Singh, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) Krishi Vigyan Kendra highlighted on the schemes based on handicraft which may help the women members to establish their self employment unit. Shri Johnson Abraham, Senior Manager, ANCON in his address was given detailed information about development programme available with his department.
Smti Annamma John, Branch Manager, A&N State Coop. Bank Ltd explained about various banking programme available with A & N State Coop. Bank, Shri K. Kumaravel, Officer Incharge, Handicraft department, Govt. of India, Port Blair was enlightened on the scheme based on handicraft available with his department. Shri Anant Rao, General Secretary, A&N State Coop. Union in his address expressed his happiness towards the efforts of NCUI for organizing this type of training programme through which women member will be benefited. Shri Rajesh Pal, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Garacharma-II was also presented on the occasion. The programme was coordinated by Smti Sunila Kumari, Lady Mobiliser, NCUI, Port Blair. 25 women members of different Self Help Group are participating in the training programme.
