Port Blair, Nov 24: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has demanded immediate declaration of summer vacation -2015 for the educational institutions of these islands so as to enable the teachers, parents and students to plan their visit to mainland for various purposes. In a letter sent to the Secretary-cum-Director of Education, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Shri D. The Association told the Secretary-cum-Director of Education that due to heavy rush of tourists from mainland, it is very difficult to get flight tickets for the islanders even now and if the summer vacation for schools is not declared in advance, the teachers and other government employees besides parents of students will be put to hardship as they will not be able to get the flight tickets for visiting mainland. Shri Ayyappan told the Secretary-cum-Director of Education that hundreds of teachers and other government employees will be required to proceed to mainland for home town visit, medical treatment, higher education of children, etc during summer vacation every year.
The Association has further pointed out that a number of candidates from the islands who are wards of teachers and other government employees prefer coaching classes and examination centres for the entrance examinations at various places on the mainland. Any delay in the announcement of the summer vacation will adversely affect the prospects of such students, he said.
