Port Blair, Apr 03: When these Islands were reeling under severe power crisis and people of these Islands started protesting against Administration, Er. R P Singh, Superintending Engineer (i/c) Electricity Department, stood firm and battled against all odds to minimize the power cut from 2 hours to present 30 – 45 mints.
When situation were tough, he worked as a crucial link between top brass officers, junior level staffs and management Suryachakra Power House to sort out all problems and restore power supply.
When the third DG set of SPCL failed during the power crisis days, Er. R P Singh personally reached the SPCL power house to make sure that the 3rd DG set is repaired as soon as possible.
No doubt the LG, CS and the Principal Secretary (Power) had worked day and night to end the power crisis but from the Electricity Department Er. R P Singh was the one who turned all orders and directions, received from his superiors, into reality.
Acknowledging the tremendous contribution of Mr. R P Singh the Administration has now extended the services of Er. R P Singh for another six month. A well deserved extension, indeed. Er. Singh was supposed to retire on 31 March 2012.
“I feel extremely honoured,” was the only line Er. Singh told Andaman Sheekha over phone.
Though critics say that this extension will delay promotion chances of many juniors in the department, who were anxiously waiting for their turn but with this extension, Administration has made it clear that Administration acknowledges all efforts of hard working government servants. This decision of extending the services of Er. R P Singh, will always remain an example for others to follow.
Congratulations shri R.P.SINGH.
