Port Blair, Oct 27: The President, Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry and its Members and constituent Associations who were supporting and participating in the Trade Bandh were called by the Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal Council on today the 27th October, 2014 for a meeting to discuss the charter of demand submitted by the ACCI.
An elaborate discussion was held in the Conference Hall of the Council wherein all Members of the Municipal Council were present. The Chairperson and all Counsellors were extremely positive about the proposed demand in the meeting and subsequently they had a meeting.
A letter was issued to the President, ACCI confirming therein that in general it was felt that the proposal of the Chamber regarding revision in taxes, needs consideration. It has also been unanimously concluded that a Committee will be constituted with Members from the Chamber of Commerce, Administration and PBMC.
For this purpose a special meeting of the Municipal Council will be convened on 29th October, 2014 to examine the revision of taxes/charges. The Committee will be constituted within seven days and will submit its report within forty five days. The Chairperson in his letter has also assured that immediate action will be taken to rationalize various taxes, etc. and instructions have already been issued to the officials of the PBMC to ensure that no delay or harassment is caused to the trade in any way.
In view of the written commitment and assurances given by the Chairperson, PBMC on behalf of all the Counsellors and also by the Chief Secretary & Secretary, PBMC, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided to postpone the Bandh proposed on 28.10.2014.
The Chamber would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chief Secretary, the Chairperson and Counsellors for their initiative and all its supporting and participating Associations and Members for having given their support for the Bandh call. Meanwhile, the ACCI and its supporting and participating Associations in a meeting held on today have also unanimously decided that in case the genuine demands of the ACCI were not sorted out within the stipulated time they reserve the right to go for a larger agitation in due course.
