Port Blair, Oct 20: Yet another crocodile attack in tourist location of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has triggered fear among the stake holders of Andaman Tourism.
“We have been demanding for netting all tourists beaches in Andaman so that Tourists visiting these Islands feel safe while entering waters but on the contrary we are observing rise in the number of croc attack cases in Andaman,” said a member of Tour Operator Association who does not want his name to be quoted.
Other Tour Operator Associations like Association of Tour Operators (ATO) has already written couple of letters to Administration urging immediate steps to save tourists from crocodiles.
The recent crocodile attack was reported on last Saturday at Wandoor Jetty area, which bustles with hundreds of tourists, everyday.
Sanjith Bairagi, a 22 year old diver of Wandoor suffered a crocodile attack on Saturday evening at Wandoor Jetty area. Bairagi was attacked by the Crocodile while he was diving near Jetty area.
However another diver reportedly hit one of the eyes of the crocodile to free Sanjith Bairagi.
Badly injured Sanjith Bairagi, was immediately rushed to nearby Hospital, where it took 31 stitches to close his wounds on his face and head.
In last five years about one dozen people, including a tourist from USA, have been killed by salt water crocodiles of A & N Islands.
Crocs have also been sighted repeatedly in famous tourist beaches of Corbyn’s Cove and North Bay.
