Port Blair, Oct 20: Like every year, Directorate of Health Services celebrating Global Iodine Deficiency Prevention Day on 21st October 2014 along with the rest of the country to highlight the importance of consumption of iodized salt.
Nowadays Iodine deficiency disorder prevails all over the world and affects IQ of younger generations. Iodine is a micro nutrient which is required in small amounts by our body for normal body growth, brain development and metabolic functions. In our country iodized salt being used to combat this iodine deficiency disorder.
To mark the occasion, various IEC activities will be organized by health department in all over Andaman & Nicobar islands involving social welfare department, education department, civil supplies department, panchayati raj institutions and NGO’s to create awareness about importance of consumption of iodize salt for prevention and control iodine deficiency disorders to attain normal body growt, brain development and metabolic functions.
General public are requested to make habits of consumption of iodized salt regularly to prevent and control iodine deficiency disorder.
