Billyground, Oct 13: Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission generated tremendous response from residents of Billyground in Middle Andaman. On Monday, youth of the area including teachers, police and forest officials and villagers gathered at Billyground bazaar with brooms and appealed others to join them to clean the area. Within 20 minutes, more than 120 persons gathered and started cleaning the area. The Chief Medical Officer, of PHC Billyground, Dr Susamma and her team also joined the cleanliness drive to keep the bazaar area spick and span. Dr. Susamma urged the participants to continue with such drives and called upon shopkeepers to keep their premises neat and clean.
Since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission, residents of Bollyground conducted such drives in two other occasions. Besides, villagers and government employees, children of the area enthusiastically participated in the cleanliness. Awareness camps were also organized to sensitized people on the hazards of insanitary conditions and the need to desist from littering in public spaces.
