Port Blair, Oct 10: The three-day 25th All India Official Language Conference-cum-Training camp got underway at the conference hall of the Sun Sea Resort here today. Organized by the Bhartiya Bhasha & Sanskriti Kendra (BBSK) New Delhi, the camp was inaugurated by the Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. AK Singh (Retd.) by lighting the traditional oil lamp.
Addressing the delegates from different parts of the country, the Lt. Governor informed that the A&N Administration is making best efforts to maximize the use of Hindi in day-to-day official work. Nodal Officer (OL) has been appointed in all the Departments to monitor the implementation of official language, the Lt Governor added.
The Lt Governor informed about the contribution of freedom fighters towards propagation of Hindi in these Islands and said that Freedom Fighters from different parts of country, who were incarcerated in Cellular Jail accepted Hindi as a link language and since then, Hindi become commonly used in these Islands. Though its use is being encouraged in all spheres of life in these Islands, the other languages prevailing here are also given due respect, the Lt Governor added.
The Lt Governor thanked the organizers for selecting these Islands for conducting this conference which, according to him, will further contribute towards propagation of Hindi. He also urged the BBSK to work towards simplification of Hindi so that everyone can speak and understand the language without any difficulty.
The Lt Governor also released a booklet titled ‘Sanskritik Samanvay’ brought out by Bhartiya Bhasha & Sanskriti Kendra on the occasion. The Lt Governor gave away trophies to the best performing department in using Hindi as also individual prizes to the senior officers who immensely contribute in encouragement and use of Hindi.
Among others the function was also graced by the Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash, the Auditor General Agriculture Ministry, Shri Anil Srivastava, Group MD ONGC Ltd Dehradun, Shri Baijnath, the Secretary Bhartiya Bhasha & Sanskriti Kendra, Shri Mahipal Singh and the Executive Director NHPC Ltd. Shri AK Gupta. The conference inaugurated today will continue till October 12, 2014.
